Specialized Body Geometry
Specialized have developed a range of products which have been scientifically
proven to enhance performance and provide significant ergonomic advantage,
thus reducing the risk of long term injuries, and improving the safety
and pleasure of your biking – at whatever level you are involved.

Because of the unique physiological differences between the sexes,
Specialized now offer products which have been specifically designed
for men and women.
Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, now has a full range of Body Geometry products from Specialized
covering saddles, shoes, gloves and grips across both road bikes and
mountain bikes, all in male and female options
Saddles
With
new scientific blood flow and pressure testing methods, Specialized
has now designed a brand new range of saddles, which promote maximum
blood flow, and decreases numbness.
Traditionally saddle size was determined by educated guesswork –
we now know through exhaustive research that even those riders with
identical waists sizes and weight, do not sit on an identical saddle
in the same way – the distance between the sit bone was often
very different. So narrow saddles were not always the best fit for
small people, and respectively wide saddles were not always the best
choice for bigger riders.
At Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, we are able to offer you a custom fitting - using the
‘assometer’ – this saddle fit system measures the
exact width of you ischial tuberosities, from there we can offer a
wide selection of saddles to fit your individual sit bone width.
Shoes
Few
items enhance your cycling as much as bike shoes.
The cleat-to-pedal interface allows you to maintain maximum power
throughout the pedal stroke, which makes climbing much easier and
lets you ride faster with the same effort.
In designing their shoes Specialized enlisted the help of Dr Andy
Pruitt, a sports injury specialist, and the result is a range of shoes
with a truly custom fit, excellent ergonomics, offering maximum pedalling
power and minimising the likelihood of long term repetitive injuries.
The scientific bit ……
Specialized bike shoes offer several ergonomic enhancements, including
a varus wedge that slightly angles the forefoot to match its natural
canted position.
This wedge keeps the foot in full contact with the pedal and eliminates
the rotational movement of the knee, known as ‘knee dive’.
The resulting pedal stroke is smoother and better aligned; eliminating
knee pain and strain and improving power. You'll notice the difference
right away.

Footbed System
At Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, we are one of the first stores in the UK to offer the
new Specialized Body Geometry High Performance Footbeds and Shims.
The process starts by using Specialized’s unique ‘Arch-O-Meter’
mat, which reads your individual foot contour and pressure distribution.
Next, based on the readings, one of our trained team will recommend
the correct combination of Body Geometry insoles and varus / valgus
wedges to offer a custom fit and correct leg alignment.
The result is perfect biomechanical alignement for the lower leg
– pedalling movement will be at its most efficient and less
stressful for joints – so whether you are powering 25km on a
Triathlon, or cycling with the family on forest tracks the result
is amazing.
